Goodbye mandolin. Hello electric guitar and pedal steel. No longer an acoustic band with an americana spirit, on their third album Between Lines Rusticator has expanded their sonic palette outside the confines of acoustic instruments and classic keyboards to include bigger drums and electric instruments. Call them an americana band with an acoustic spirit.

At the heart of the band remains great songwriting. The direct and heartfelt songs of Jordan White (bass) are a new component to the Rusticator sound. They serve as a great complement to the more abstract songs from the pen of Tony Califano (guitar). The songs on Between Lines explore the wisdom and challenges of fatherhood, the sting and slow burn of personal loss and emotional pain, and the joys of new love.

These songs are propped up with some exciting drumming from Derek Dobson, finally free from the confines of his suitcase bass drum. Joe Gumpper lends some of his most delicate string parts yet, as well as some rollicking fiddle solos. The addition of guest musician Roger Noyes on the pedal-steel guitar, along with plenty of Hammond Organ and electric guitar twang, gives Between Lines a sonic identity that is rooted in the world of americana and country-rock. Recorded and mixed at home, these familiar musical references have been filtered through the groups unique musical chemistry into a sound that is truly their own.
